Lawmakers in Montana passed a bill to ban TikTok from operating in the state.

The United States of America (USA), Canada, the UK, and Australia have all banned their government agencies from using TikTok on all government-owned devices.

The reason for the ban is that the Western government believes that the app has a connection with the Chinese government and can easily spy on government devices for the Chinese government.

Although, TikTok has denied that it has ever shared data with the Chinese government.

TikTok also said the company won’t do such a thing even when asked to

TikTok is an app owned by Chinese tech company Bytedance used for streaming short videos.

The bill prohibits app stores from offering TikTok to users in Montana.

Montana House voted 54-43 to approve this ban known as SB419.

TikTok would face fines if they violate the ban when it becomes a law.

The legislation specifically outlines potential penalties of $ 10,000 per violation per day.

The penalties would also apply to any app store found to have violated the law.

Individual users of TikTok wouldn’t be penalized for accessing TikTok.

The bill now heads to Montan Governor, Governor Greg Gianforte for signing.

The governor will carefully consider any bill the legislature sends to his desk, this speech was given by a spokesman in the Montana office.

Should governor Greg Gianforte, sign the bill, it will take effect in January.

TikTok said in a statement will continue to fight for TikTok users in Montan whose livelihoods are being threatened by this egregious government overreach.”
