Our correspondent encountered an empty polling place where INEC officials were waiting for voters to arrive, in contrast to other wards and units where nervous people sported long expressions while anticipating the arrival of ad-hoc personnel of the organization.

The squatted flat, which is part of Blooming Vine Estate, is situated just across the street from the well-known Apo mechanic village.

As they came and saw our reporter nearby, the presiding INEC official on duty, Eberechi Nwosu, explained their situation.

She told The PUNCH that, as of the time they came at the unit with security personnel at 8:58 am, just 13 qualified voters had come for accreditation.

Nwosu added that as of 12:45 p.m., only five of the 13 voters had cast ballots, and two hours prior to the arrival of our correspondent, there was no sign of any other potential electorates.

She stated:  “We have been sitting in the last three hours and have so far accredited 13 persons. However, only five of them returned to vote. We are still hopeful that the others would come too. But if we don’t see them, we will count the votes and pack our things.”
