Mike Riley Offers Everton Apology For Handball, Everton received an apology from the head of the professional referees’ body Mike Riley after they lost the opportunity for a late penalty in a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.

The Toffees penned a complaint to the League concerning the decision made when Manchester City midfielder Rodri appeared to use his arm to control the ball.

Both referee Paul Tierney and his video assistant referee Chris Kavanagh deemed it was not worthy of a penalty kick despite complaints from the fans and Everton head coach Frank Lampard.

Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) head Mike Riley called both Lampard and the Toffees’ chairman Bill Kenwright on Monday to apologize for the incident which could prove damning to the club’s attempts to stay in the Premier League.

Everton remains 17th in the league table, one point above Burnley who plays Leicester in the Premier League on Tuesday (19:45 GMT).
