The ability for mobile users to create bespoke notifications for any number of participating nations made it even simpler to obtain a list of forthcoming matches and pertinent information.

Not only did Google see tremendous traffic during the World Cup final, but Twitter CEO Elon Musk also revealed in a Tweet that the site handled a record-breaking 24,400 Tweets per second after France’s goal.

The #WC2022 hashtag received 147 billion impressions worldwide, surpassing the #WC2018 estimates and more than tripling those of the #Tokyo2020 Olympics, according to a Twitter blog post.

Argentina vs. France and Croatia vs. Brazil ranked first and fifth, respectively, in terms of Tweets per minute, with Messi generating the most discussion on social media.

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, joined Pichai and Musk in calling the final “one of the finest games I’ve ever watched” on Twitter(opens in new tab). Other executives also openly voiced their pleasure during the game.

The ability of Google and Twitter to adjust and satisfy followers has likely contributed to the platforms’ continued dominance for major international events like the World Cup.
