What are the qualities of a good friend?

1. Integrity: Good people have principles that guide them. Friends like these always act according to their values, so you can be sure they won’t lead you astray.
2. Honesty: A good friend will always tell you to your face when you are wrong. They speak with good intentions. You can be sure your secrets are safe with them, as are your fears and vulnerabilities.

 

3. Dependability:  Good friends will keep their promises and always show up. You can always rely on them.

 

4. Good listening skills: They hear what you say and what you don’t. You can freely pour out your heart without fear of judgment.

 

5. Confidence: Their confidence is needed to spur you on at times when you feel low.

6. A good sense of humor: A good friend shouldn’t lack this. Of course, you will spend a lot of time with your friends, and they will need cheering up when they are at their worst.

 

7. Low maintenance: They know that you have a life to live. They don’t come with all the drama of having to constantly talk. Good friendship doesn’t require all of your time and attention.

 

How to Find Good Friends

  1. Attend events
  2. Volunteer or take up a new hobby.
  3. Be your own best friend.

 

How about bad friends?

If they are good friends, then they are bound to be bad ones. Here are some ways to identify them.

  1. They don’t respect your feelings. With them, what you want or agree to isn’t an option.
  2. You feel drained after talking to them.

 

  1. They don’t make time for you or listen to you.

 

  1. The friendship is one-sided. Everything is about them. Such people make you feel inadequate.

 

  1. They are a bad influence.

The bottom line

Life is too precious to be spent with toxic people. Note that true friendship is a bed of roses. There will be fights, jealousies, and arguments. This is a result of different backgrounds and perspectives.

Sometimes your friend might make you angry due to their poor choices in life. There will be messy confrontations. The good thing is that your friendship will survive with honest and open communication. The struggle to get good friends is real, but once you find them, you will feel fulfilled.
