Here’s what we know about Android 12 so far.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! At Google IO 2021 in June, Android 12 was officially announced. It exhibits a refreshed design and new features that place a stronger emphasis on privacy and interactivity.
Since then, the public beta version has shown off several new features. Including improved screenshot support, one-handed mode, and refreshed notifications.
Google released the software update after the Pixel 6 launch event, and it is now accessible for previous Pixel phones. Although the company hasn’t said which phones are compatible. We suspect the Pixel 3 might be the oldest phone to get the update given it was the threshold for the Android 12 beta.
The 2021 upgrade to Google’s Android operating system, Android 12, builds on Android 11, which some phones are still using. Google calls it the largest design change in Android history. But it is clear that this is more than simply an iterative upgrade.
Now that the Android 12 beta is available for certain users to download, it may still be useful for non-Pixel owners of the Xiaomi Mi 11, OnePlus 9, and other beta-compatible phones.
The Android Open Source Project (AOSP) already has the final version available. Although the freshly announced Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are expected to receive Android 12 sometime after the Launch Event.
Most likely one of the first devices to release with the upgrade will be the new Pixel phones. Since each manufacturer must ensure that the most recent update is compatible with their current phones, you’ll probably have to wait a little longer if you own another (non-Pixel) Android phone.
We’ll update this post as soon as we learn of further features. And we’ll keep doing so when Android 12 is released to phones and new beta versions are released.
