A slithering armored convoy, 65km (40 miles) long, awash with tanks and troops, slowly snakes forward. It is now only 27km away.

It lends new meaning to the expression “the world is watching”. These satellite images in dark shades of bleak and dreary grey are there for all to see, conveying a meaning that’s all too black and white. Only Ukrainian forces, soldiers, and civilians alike can stop its ruthless advance. Western militaries are keeping up the faux aid by offering weapons and generic salvos of platitudes and strong words. In reality, Ukraine is on its own.
“We’ll burn the convoy,” a Ukrainian journalist vows from his hiding place in a basement shelter. It’s the strength of this resolve that will be tested and may see Ukraine’s unexpectedly strong resistance to the imperious Russian army’s advance eventually win the day.
