IKEA Confirms Cyberattack

IKEA confirms cyberattack on its stores. Swedish furniture giant IKEA has revealed that the ransomware gang Vice Society attacked some of its stores. These stores were in North Africa and the Middle East.

“A cyber attack on IKEA Morocco and Kuwait disrupted some operating systems. Together with our cybersecurity partners and the appropriate authorities, the incident is being investigated.” According to a tweet from the business published by Cybernews.

IKEA added that these stores are independent of other IKEA businesses worldwide because they are operated under a Kuwaiti franchise.

IKEA confirms cyberattack: leaked private information

The Swedish giant has four locations in Morocco and three stores in Kuwait. Its corporate headquarters are in the Netherlands.

In all likelihood, the hack took place some time ago. Because Vice Society has already posted the private files that were obtained in the attack to their data leak website. That most likely indicates that the talks have already failed and that the business did not comply with the ransom demands.

According to an analysis of the data that was provided by Cybernews, some of the file names there indicate that an IKEA store in Jordan may have also been compromised. There are two stores run by the corporation there. Passport information for employees may have been among the data that leaked.

As a well-known international company, IKEA is frequently targeted by fraudsters. The company’s mailboxes were reportedly the target of a significant reply-all email chain attack in November of last year.

In an internal email sent to its staff at the time, Ikea stated that “other Ikea organizations, suppliers, and business partners are compromised by the same attack and are further spreading malicious(opens in new tab) emails to persons in Inter Ikea.”

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), perhaps the most infamous organization compromised, also had its data leaked after ransom negotiations failed. Vice Society, on the other hand, is a relatively new operation that was founded in late 2020.
